Why do (apparently) so many japanese allow this primitive behavior to continue? Are they inferior as a culture having a horrible hole in their spirits where compassion exists in truely superior societies. And, frankly i don’t give a damn if the chronically superficial wrongly think i’m being racist. I’m judging behavior here not race.

    • Its easy to blame the Japanese (and the Norwegians) for continuing with these “traditions” of theirs. However, if you concider how many the Japanese people are, I’m fairly sure that a lot of them don’t know exactly how wrong this is and what an impact it has and might have in the future, on the worlds eco system. Many of them don’t even know that their country kill whales (and dolphins…they kill soooo many dolphins each year it’s sickening. If you’ve seen the cove you will also have seen the Japanese peoples reactions to finding out that their country is killing these beautiful creatures. They had no idea, and they were clearly shocked).
It’s the politics that is wrong in this country. For every year that Sea Shepherd has been present in Anarctica, the whalers (the Japanese government) has lost a lot of money. In fact, they even went so far as using their tsunami relief funds to pay for their whaling activities (http://www.motherjones.com/blue-marble/2011/12/japan-admits-tsunami-funds-used-safeguard-whaling-fleet), just so that Sea Shepherd wouldn’t “win” over them. At some point the Japanese government will have to realise defeat, but they are insanely stubborn and so stupidly proud, that if they can find a way to keep their whaling operations going they will stop at nothing to get their way.
Sea Shepherd is in Antarctica at this very moment, because even with all that the whalers lost last year, they still refuse to call it quits. The war has never been more real down there than right at this very moment (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-02-26/japanese-whaling-vessel-being-rammed-by-sea-shepherd-fleet/4539718). I support Sea Shepherd because I believe that what they do is necessary, it is a little bit crazy what they do, but at least they are doing something to end whaling.
