Sea Shepherd Prepares for Another Battle in Antarctica

Lately, I’ve been getting daily visits to my blog from people who have searched for “Sea Shepherd Campaign 2011”, “Whale Wars 2011” etc., and I realize how little I have written about Sea Shepherd and anti-whaling lately. Other things (life etc. ;)) have gotten in the way, though my view on whaling has not changed, and I am still very much of a supporter of the work that Sea Shepherd does.
Since there seems to be people looking for information, I will share what I know.
The Japanese government has decided to fund another Japanese whaling season in the Southern Ocean. Not just funded, but given extra funding in order to keep Sea Shepherd away. One of the statements from the Japanese government has been that they refuse to give in to Sea Shepherd, and they are willing to pay to make sure that Sea Shepherd will not win their battle.
Sea Shepherd is getting prepared to head back down to the Southern Ocean this winter (read their announcement here). Their new campaign has been named “Operation Divine Wind”.
As far as there being another season of Whale Wars filmed this year, I do not yet know what Animal Planet has decided. I promise to let you know as soon as I find out.
Also, for you Whale Wars fans, there is another season of Whale Wars on the way. The film crew was with Sea Shepherd to the Faroe islands this summer to film their battle to end “the Grind”, a gruesome long-standing whaling tradition in the Faroes. Read the announcement from Animal Planet here. The working title for this project is “The Faroe Islands Project”.
I will make sure to keep updating the blog on all things anti-whaling, Sea Shepherd and Whale Wars during the autumn and winter 🙂
Good luck Sea Shepherd. Thank you for what you do, and for refusing to give up.
